Even though fast food restaurants get a lot of complaints about how they don't do anybody any good, but the massive chain stores allows for job opportunities, benefits and business investments.
Many American fast food chains, such as Burger King, McDonald's, KFC and Taco Bell, who try to promote a diverse working force, offering jobs to teenagers from the age of 14, to retired persons. A teenager with a disability that is labelled as Sensory Integration Issues, has worked in McDonald's as a part-time worker. He works there as McDonald's gave him the opportunity to work there at a restaurant, and since then, he says that his social skills, independence, responsibility, attention to task and money skills have all improved since working there. Due to support and encouragement from his employer, his self esteem and confidence has also boosted up as well.
Another interviewee, is a Team Leader while going to university. For him, developing and improving leadership skills from a young age has been one of the main skills he has gained out of working for Arby's. He has boosted his own confidence in his skills and abilities.
One other interviewee owns four different McDonald's in Ohio, and is constantly on the move due to problems of employees in different restaurants in different cities, and sometimes works up to 60 hours per week. However, because of their great responsibility, they are able to enjoy benefits. Life insurance is offered to McDonald's full time employees, and other similar benefits that other fast food chains offer as well.
Wendy’s can offer medical, dental and prescription coverage, life insurance for self, spouse and others, a 401k retirement income with benefits, disability income, paid time off and even tuition reimbursement. Taco Bell and KFC offers the same benefits, but also with stock options, college-planning assistance and tuition reimbursement opportunities.
All fast food restaurants also offer promotions within each restaurants, and employees are able to work up the chain of jobs, with more responsibility yet more benefits, with raises in pay at predetermined intervals.
